Refill Management Systems Wins Grant for Advancing Healthcare TechnologyRefill Management Systems wins $10,440 grant for the development and application of its software to manage the medication refill process.
MAINE, January. 29, 2010 — The $10,440 funding from the Maine Technology Institute (MTI) competitive grant will be used by Refill Management Systems (RMS) to test and broaden its development of Protocol Rx, a software solution which provides computer-aided decision support to medical assistants and nurses assisting physicians managing medication refills.
“This grant, which has been critical to our continuing success, allows us to carry on quality assuring and refining this electronic medical record technology which is changing the face of health information technology,” says Dr. J Scott Patch, a family physician and RMS founder. “Protocol Rx can help reduce the administrative burden associated with managing refills, letting physicians focus on the more important components of patient care, and delivering on our mission to improve efficiency and quality in the practice of medicine.”
Protocol Rx uses protocols to manage the medication refill process by collecting clinical data, such as blood tests, office visit and blood pressure readings from a patient’s EMR. The patient-specific data is then compared in real time with a customizable refill protocol and immediately provides recommendations to the user, such as additional testing needs, office follow-ups, and allowable number of refill days.
